Co-Worker Rant
Background: Myself and a friend are planning a work baby shower for our wonderful, amazing friend (also a co-worker). Jane is due the first week in March.
Co-Woker #1: Uh, I've wanted to plan a shower for Jane since, like October, and I hear you've started.
Me: Oh yeah, if you'd like to help out I'd love it and will keep you in the loop.
Co-Woker #1: Well, you know, Jane and I are like really good friends, so I think I need to be involved in it all.
In my head (First of all, Mrs. Co-Worker #1, you have the WORST TASTE EVER. Secondly, Jane doesn't like you. Thirdly, you didn't get invited to the family shower. Lastly, implying that you're better friends with someone is like a middle school popularity contest. This is about JANE and her new addition--not where you fall on the friendship scale. So while I'll be glad to assign you some mundane tasks, you will not be throwing this shower.)

A Weird Cold?
Having colds is the most annoying thing in the world.  This cold has been weird though.  Last night I was in bed (after the State of the Union) before the President could even get out of the House Gallery—AND I solved* the health care crisis before I fell asleep.**  (If you wanna hear more I’m happy to share, but prefer to keep my dashboard free of political banter—and yes, my...

When Will you Melt Ice?
I’m lucky to live in a place where when it snows it melts by the end of the week (usually).  But, I’ve had snow and ice in my backyard for over a month.  And it’s slippery.  I biffed it the other day and have a huge bruise on my shin—which kept me from skiing this weekend.  Oh mother nature.

Horrible Run Today
So I’ve been really good about my running lately.  And every day it’s gotten easier.  Wednesdays are one of the days I heartrate train.  Today, my run was SO hard.  I stopped every five minutes it seemed (for no more than 30 seconds) and then had to go back to it.  Is it normal to have days like this when you’re training for a run?

Fun Wine Fact
thecooknook: You know when you aerate your red wine by swishing it around in the glass. Well, you can actually swish it around as hard as you can without spilling as long as you keep the base firmly planted on a hard surface. Try it. It’s impossible to spill. And it helps aerate your wine much better.  Great tip!

East Coast in Me
Life has been amazing the past few days—but I find myself getting so irritated when people are in my way or moving slowly.  Like, hello people, we’re going places, get a move on.  Then I remember I live in Colorado.  Denver has more medical marijuana licensed shops per capita than Starbucks.  We go with the flow.  I don’t think I’m cut out for this for too much...

Shoe Trama
Ok.  My black boots have seen better days.  And by seen better days, I mean I’m embarrassed to put them on anymore.  They’re the best pair I’ve ever had.  Leather, mid calf, black, 1 inch (yes, only 1) wedge, and ovalish-pointy toe (yes it’s possible).  They work perfectly with everything—from a suit at work, to a day of errands, to a night out on the town. ...

Annoying
thecooknook: Is when you show up for a spin class on-time and it’s sold out (and by sold out, I mean full). But hey, I’m the newbie here at the gym, I should be earlier. Lesson learned. So, really annoying is showing up for the class 15 minutes early to find that it’s not only sold out, but it’s sold out even though no one is there. They have just left their towels on a bike to designate their...

Cold.
It’s so cold outside, That I think my heater broke, Summer, where aret thou?* I like to write in haikus.  And I’m sure in August I’ll be complaining about the heat.  It’s just really really really cold in my house right now.

My gym has this program called “maintain, don’t gain” over the holidays.  While I ate my little heart out—I did it within reason—and got on the weigh in scale today and LOST weight over the holidays.  Wooooooo hooooooo!

New Years Eve Success →
This restaurant was to die for.  Denver, for being kind of in the middle of no where, does ok with restaurants.  I haven’t been able to indulge as much as I’ld like, but I spent NYE 2010 with some dear friends at Tag for their set menu.  Our waiter, Dave, was great at suggesting choosing my pairings.  What I had: Yellowtail Sashimi with jalapenos and pop rocks (Dry, not to sweet...

Mac Cosmetics Studio Fix Foundation
I’ve been using this make up for 3 years.  Problem:  NO Mac store in my mountain town.  So either I need to make the drive down to Denver (currently winning) or try something new (not winning). Any suggestions?

"Goodbye Suck-Ass 2009"*
January:  Started a new stipended (is that a word) internship with a health insurance company where I got to work with their Foundation to give grants.  Found out one of my childhood friend’s dad had a stroke—** Childhood friend’s father is the one who stated the above. February:  (or maybe it was January) Casey gets stuck in Denver and I get to see her, and meet Joel and Lady...
